Dear students,
MM
Due to the current situation, I would like to ask you to pay attention to the following instructions on how to proceed to successfully complete the course.
The following link will provide access to all your materials.
Please, click on it, and it'll take you to folders divided by topics that you can also find in the syllabus. Each folder contains reading materials (texts as they are listed in the syllabus) and my notes to provide additional information, plus my explanation to some of the readings. You can also find some of my PP presentations that, again, provide additional information. I do apologize for all those not being scrupulously instructive, however, the course is primarily performance-based.
Also, if you follow the syllabus, you will find film assignments with each topic. I do not provide access to these films, however, they are widely available via a variety of sources. Please, it is essential that you watch these films before you consult my notes - for a better understanding of the issue. I hope I do not have to remind you that it is essential to watch the films as such.
I have also included a folder labeled essay that includes basic guides into what to focus on and how to structure and construct your essay, which will be your final outcome and source of your evaluation. Document titled Evaluation Instructions I use to evaluate students' essays - you can follow it to make sure your evaluation will be positive.
The essay itself should be 2000 words long and should follow the basic structure of an academic essay - it is also advised that you work with secondary sources to rely on some critical theories.
As for the topic of the essay - due to the circumstances, I decided to use the existing topics and films (Psychoanalysis, Feminism, Ethnicity, Auteurism, Post-structuralism, etc.) However, if you have a film you would like to work on outside my list, do let me know, and I will at least consider the option.
Please, follow the syllabus to relate recommended films to specific topics and try to reflect information from readings and my notes as you watch them. I do understand that it may be difficult to see what's what without proper face-to-face explanation, however, I will, of course, help you with everything you might need - guide you more when you feel you do not understand/cannot reflect/comprehend, whatever... So, please, do not hesitate to contact me and ask questions using my personal email (martina.martausova@upjs.sk).
The deadline for all of your assignments is W13.
Let's hope all this madness will be over soon and stay safe!
