English word-formation and Morphology - exam instructions

English word-formation and Morphology examinations

These two courses will be examined online by means of the Microsoft Teams. The technological-formal conditions for taking an exam are as follows: 1. UPJS email address; 2. Microsoft Teams application on one's computer or any other mobile device. 3. registration for an exam in the AIS system for a particular examination date.

Please note that each student must register for an exam or cancel the registration two days before the examination date at the latest. Later registrations/cancellations will not be permitted by the AIS system. Each student will receive an email message one day before the examination date. It will specify the precise examination time. The email will also contain the Join Microsoft Teams box. Please click on the box at the specified time to connect with the examiner.  If the student does not receive such a mail by 17:00 (one day before the examination), (s)he is expected to write immediately an email to prof. Štekauer.  It is absolutely necessary for each student to observe the specified time. Your failure to do so will cause considerable delays and, therefore, problems to the other students. Each examinee's computer should be provided with a camera and a microphone. It is strongly recommended that students (at least one day before their examination date) verify their Microsoft Teams connection. If an examinee does not connect with the examiner at a specified time without justification (s)he will be failed (FX).

The oral examination will be based on a dialogue: questions and immediate answers without preparation. Each student will be informed immediately about the examination result. Resources for the examination: Essentials of English Linguistics, relevant chapters from the Rudiments of English Linguistics, lectures and materials from the seminars.

If a student is aware of any problems with the connection or of any other technical problems, (s)he is supposed to contact prof. Štekauer before the examination period.

It is in the interest of all students to pass the examination. If technical problems of any sort occur during the examination the student must contact the examiner by email immediately. The examiner will give the student instructions of the next procedure.

Any attempt at cheating will result in failing the student and in advising both the head of the Department and the Ethical Commission.

Example of the examination process:

1. I choose the examination date and register for the examination in the AIS system, for example 20 May (Wednesday). In this case I must register for the examination by Sunday (17 May), 24:00. The same applies to the cancelation of the student's registration.

2. I check whether my UPJS address is functional.

3. I install the Microsoft Teams application (if not already installed on my computer). I test the connection (including the connection via a camera and a microphone).

4. I wait for an email from the Microsoft Teams. The email specifies the time of my examination, e.g., 9:30. If I do not get any email by 17:00 on 19 May (Tuesday), I immediately write an email message to prof. Štekauer. He will advise me of the next procedure.

5. On 20 May at 9:30, I click on the Join Microsoft Teams box and get connected to the examiner by both camera and microphone. If the connection does not work, I immediately send an email to the examiner.

6. The examiner will ask questions and I answer them without preparation.

7. The examination will not exceed the time limit of 30 minutes, which means it will be completed before 10:00. The examiner will inform me about the results and will enter the grade in the AIS system on the same day.
